Our Story
Back in 2019, a group of community members - friends, newbies and long-time locals, went to see an environmental film called “Resilience” in nearby Owen Sound. This locally produced documentary had a profound impact on its audience. The powerful messaging about the urgent need for climate action resonated deeply.
Inspired by the film’s “Let’s just start” mantra, these community members felt compelled to do something meaningful together. The Climate Action Now Network (CANN) came into being with a shared desire to make a difference and a collective commitment to protect our local environment
Later that year, a peaceful local gathering was organized at the Town Hall, to raise awareness about the imminent threats to our climate and a call for action. Over 100 residents of all ages enthusiastically attended!
In response to the residents' passionate plea, the Town of The Blue Mountains officially declared a Climate Emergency.
For over five years, CANN has focused on action-oriented projects that have raised awareness and resulted in positive climate action.
“We deeply appreciate the important work carried out by the Climate Action Now Network in our community. On behalf of Council, we are excited to raise awareness and acknowledge your continued efforts toward positive environmental change” Mayor Andrea Matrosovs, Town of the Blue Mountains – Council Declaration of Proclamation – Earth Hour 2025
